Dayton Schools participates in summer program to feed kids

Dayton Public Schools has joined other districts in a food program to keep kids from going hungry this summer.

Free meals will be given and district leaders say there is a big need.

Corinthian Baptist Church is one of the meal sites and program leaders told News Center 7’s Molly Koweek that they pass out about 1,900 meals per day.

"We know that our children are hungry during the school year and we like to know that there's food available to them throughout the summer when we're not there in school to give them meals," said Cathie DeFehr, director of nutrition services at Dayton Public Schools.

The free meals can include breakfast, lunch and a snack depending on the location as long as the child is under the age of 18.
