Salvation Army opens Dayton resource center to help tornado victims

The Salvation Army’s resource center is opening today for those affected by the Memorial Day tornadoes.

The Salvation Army spent most of last week passing out food and water. The opening of this resource center will provide legal advice and starter kits for those who lost their homes.

“We're starting to look at more of the long term of how we can help them get back on their feet and be able to reestablish themselves,” Salvation Army Major Bessie Babbitt told News Center 7’s Kayla Courvell. “I sat back and thought, if I was in a disaster, what would I need.”

The Red Cross, St. Vincent de Paul, Montgomery County auditor’s office and public health will all be available at the resource center.

The resource center at 1000 N. Keowee St. will be open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. It will be open at the same times next Monday and Tuesday.
