Sheriff’s office K-9 injured while tracking pursuit suspect

A Mercer County Sheriff’s Office K-9 officer was injured while assisting deputies in tracking a pursuit suspect Saturday July 27, the sheriff’s office said.

The K-9 named Franko and his handler were attempting to track a person who fled from a pursuit that ended in a cornfield near the corner of U.S. 33 and Celina-Mendon Road.

During the track Franko’s right front paw was injured and required treatment.

The K-9 was unable to continue the track with the Celina Police Department and is currently out of service, according to the sheriff’s office.
