Another officer was injured during the same pursuit, Sgt. Andrew Davis, a thirty-year Springdale veteran. He was taken to a hospital then released.

The two officers were stopped on I-275 attempting to intercept the suspect when the crash occurred, WCPO said.

Grant was an eight-year veteran of the Springdale Police Department and the first officer to be killed in the line of duty.

"I swore her in nine years ago," Springdale Mayor Doyle Webster said.

"A lovely young lady ... great career ... great family. It's just an absolute tragedy, and a senseless one at that."

Area law enforcement agencies are paying their respects to Officer Grant.

Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered that all flags at public buildings in Hamilton County be lowered to half staff in honor of the fallen Officer Kaia Grant.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations are investigating the incident.
