Wilmington man ID’d as person killed in head-on crash on U.S. 68 in Greene County

UPDATE @ 11:22 p.m.: A 65-year-old Wilmington man was identified as the person killed in the three-vehicle head-on crash on U.S. 68 south of Xenia Wednesday, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol post in Xenia.

  • Killed was Robert Beedle III, who was driving an SUV
  • Two passengers in the SUV and the drivers of the other two cars were taken to Miami Valley Hospital
  • Beedle's passengers were not wearing seat belts, police said
  • U.S. 68 in Caesars Creek Twp., Greene County, was shut down nearly four hours

Robert Beedle III was driving a maroon Chevy Tahoe south on 68 that was struck head-on by a blue Toyota Carolla sedan that crossed the center line just after 4 p.m.

“We don’t have any idea why the driver of the blue vehicle went left of center,” said Lt. Matt Schmenk of the OSP Xenia Post.

Salina Leist, 31, of Maineville, who was driving the Toyota, was extracted from the wreckage of her vehicle by mechanical means. Leist suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries and was listed in critical condition, officials said.

Robert Beedle Jr., 89, of Blanchester, and Penny Beedle, 53, of Wilmington, were passengers in the Tahoe. He was the right front passenger and suffered life-threatening injuries. She was the rear middle passenger and suffered minor injuries.

Neither Beedle III nor Penny Beedle was wearing seat belts, according to the statement issued by the post.

Amanda Adkins, 26, of Wilmington, was driving a black Ford F-150 pickup truck that rear-ended the Tahoe, forcing it off the road and causing it to overturn.

All of the injured were taken to Miami Valley Hospital.

Neither alcohol nor drug use is being considered a factor in the collision.

The investigation of the crash continues, according to the patrol.
