Woman found dead in Dayton alley identified

UPDATE @ 12:26 p.m.

Amanda Purcell, 30, of Dayton has been identified as the woman found dead Wednesday evening in Dayton, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy was completed but preliminary results are not available yet.

UPDATE @ 1:40 a.m. 

Homicide detectives from the Dayton Police Department are working to determine what led to the death of a woman in her 20s found on North Paul Laurence Dunbar Street late Wednesday night.

Police and medics were first dispatched around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday after two people found the body in an alley in the 800 block of North Paul Laurence Dunbar Street. 

Dayton Police Lt. Mark Ponichtera said investigators do not know how the woman died or how she got there. 

Ponichtera said police have not been able to identify the woman yet, but described her as white and in her middle to late 20s. 

Police were not able to say if the woman appeared to suffer any traumatic injuries or if they suspected a drug overdose. 

Ponichtera said the woman’s body will be removed to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for examination.

UPDATE @ 12:16 a.m.: 

Homicide detectives have arrived. The victim is a female, we’ve learned. 

FIRST REPORT

Police and a medic unit have been dispatched to North Paul Laurence Dunbar Street, near Superior Avenue, where a body has been found. 

The dispatch was made just after 11:30 p.m. The body is behind a house and Dayton Lt. Mark Ponichtera is not saying any more than that at this point. 

Crime scene tape is being put up to mark the area.
