Cincinnati airport has record year for cargo, low airfare

The Cincinnati airport had a year of records as it continues to grow faster than most other airports in the nation.

The airport served 1.1 million more passengers in 2018 than the previous year, reaching the largest volume since 2010 at 8.9 million. Local passenger volume hit new records eight months in a row, growing 13.9 percent over 2017.

The airport’s annual cargo tonnage also broke records reaching more than 1.2 million tons, up 19.6 percent from 2017.

“The positive growth we’re experiencing at CVG is because the community continues to embrace what’s next with additional air-service options and the lowest airfares in the region,” said Candace McGraw, CEO of the Cincinnati airport. “We’ve been successful in adding new nonstop destinations, as well as working with air cargo partners to establish and grow their operations, all of which grow the airport community and positively impact the local economy.”

The airport also had airfares roughly $240 less per ticket than it did four years ago. It’s success has come from low-cost carriers finding success in the Cincinnati and Covington area.
