Kemmer told Hess, "Had the law only allowed, I eagerly would had given you more time in jail, if I had the option."
Her son, Logan Hess, died from complications from blunt-force trauma to the abdomen while living with his mom in Piqua.
Her attorney, Jon Paul Rion from Dayton, told the judge that Starr Hess was "very sorry for what she let happen."
Hess had nothing to say during her sentencing. She did not cry until she was handcuffed by a court bailiff and taken to the county jail to begin serving her sentence.
So far, no one has been charged with causing the death of Logan.
The plea bargain that the mother agreed to in September when she entered a plea in the case on the day she was to go on trial prevents the county prosecutor from pursuing any other charges against Hess in the injury and death of her son.
