Bond set for 2 arrested in Hamilton standoff where chemical irritants were used

A Hamilton man and woman charged after a SWAT standoff that ended Sunday morning are being held on $75,000 bond, according to court records.

Patrick Finnigan, 29, of Goodman Avenue, and Kelly Kamphaus, 34, of North C. Street, were arrested following a “shots fired” call to 911 which resulted in a standoff with SWAT officers that lasted for five hours.

Police were called to the 1300 block of Park Avenue at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday, and soon called SWAT officers to assist until the standoff was ended around 6 a.m. Sunday.

The victim told officers Finnigan struck him in the head multiple times with a firearm, and while he was being assaulted the gun was fired, according to the Hamilton police report.

Kamphaus then grabbed the gun and pointed it at the victim’s stomach and pulled the trigger, but there was no bullet in the chamber, according to the police report.

The 1300 block of Park Avenue was blocked off from about 10:50 p.m. to 5:54 a.m. and an ambulance was on standby during that time period because police did not know if anyone was injured. Chemical irritants were used to force the surrender, according to the police report.

Finnigan is charged with felonious assault, disorderly conduct/inducing panic, and failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer.

Kamphaus is charged with felonious assault, resisting arrest and inducing panic in the incident.

Hamilton Municipal Court Judge Dan Gattermeyer set a March 15 preliminary hearing for both defendants.
