UPDATE @ 5:30 p.m. (July 19): The body found in the Great Miami River has been identified as Dustin Potter, 25, of Dayton. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office did not give a cause of death.
UPDATE @ 9:35 p.m. (July 17) The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office is on the way to retrieve the body found tonight in the Great Miami River.
No information is available on the gender or identify of the person found, or whether investigators suspect foul play.
A body was reportedly found tonight in the Great Miami River.
Dayton police and MetroParks rangers were called to the river around 8:20 p.m. in the area of Edwin C. Moses Boulevard and Washington Street on the report of a body.
An evidence crew from the police department was requested minutes later.
A woman called our newsroom and said her husband and his friend were fishing on the shore when they saw the body and reported it to police.
The men, both from Dayton, and the woman did not want to give their names. They said the body had on men’s clothing but that they knew nothing else about the person in the water.
