Dayton man arrested following high-speed pursuit on I-75

UPDATE @ 3:20 a.m.

A 22-year-old Dayton man was arrested after a high-speed chase that originated in Troy and ended on Interstate 75 in Vandalia.

Troy police said the pursuit began around 1:20 a.m. when a white Pontiac took off from a routine traffic stop near the intersection of West Market and South Market streets.

Troy Police Officer Mike Steffano said the pursuit continued south onto South County Road 25A where speeds reached 90 mph, before heading onto southbound I-75. Steffano said the car continued on the interstate where speeds topped 110 mph.

Deputies from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office threw stop sticks in the Vandalia area that deflated two of the tires, and caused the driver to pull over and surrender just north of the I-75/I-70 interchange.

The driver, identified as 22-year-old Marcus Montgomery of Dayton, was taken into custody without incident. Steffano said Montgomery didn’t give a reason for fleeing, but was driving on a suspended license.

Montgomery will be charged with fleeing and alluding and driving with a suspended license, with other charges pending.

Steffano said an odor of marijuana was in the car when the arrest was made, but drugs were not found in the vehicle.
