A Dayton man jailed this week in North Carolina in connection to credit card fraud and identity theft also is wanted in Butler and Warren counties.

Dapo Ayo Taiwo, 44, was arrested Monday by Raleigh police detectives for allegedly taking credit cards last month while victims were working out at four different gyms. On Wednesday, he also was charged as a fugitive from justice because a background check found he is wanted in Ohio for forgery, the Raleigh News & Observer reported. He is being held without bond in the Wake County Detention Center.

A warrant for Taiwo’s arrest was issued Jan. 5 in Warren County Municipal Court when he didn’t appear for an arraignment on felony charges of forgery and possession of criminal tools stemming from an October 2017 case.

He has been sought in Butler County since Dec. 15, 2017, when a warrant for his arrest was issued in Butler County Common Pleas Court. He is accused of not reporting for probation; he was sentenced in June 2016 to three years of probation following an April 2015 conviction for receiving stolen property in Fairfield, court records show.

According to the charges filed Wednesday in Raleigh, Taiwo took and used a credit card and health savings account card. Victims told police they returned to their lockers and found cards missing from their wallets or bags, the News & Observer reported.

In addition to the North Carolina and Ohio criminal charges, the Department of Homeland Security told the Wake County Sheriff’s Office that Taiwo, who was born in Nigeria, has an outstanding deportation order, the newspaper reported.
