‘Dope sick’ suspect charged with burglary after stealing thousands worth of jewelry

A Franklin man, who told Middletown police he was “very dope sick and needed to get a fix,” was charged with burglary for allegedly stealing jewelry Tuesday afternoon from a home in the 2700 block of Armco Drive.

LOCAL CRIME: West Chester woman, 60, scammed out of $70,000 on dating website

Darryl Rogers Jr., 47, admitted to police that he broke into the home and stole the jewelry, including silver and gold necklaces. The items are valued at $2,150, according to a police report.

Police also found a used syringe on Rogers. He was charged with burglary and drug abuse/instruments and for outstanding warrants, the police report read.

Rogers was arraigned last week in Middletown Municipal Court, where Judge James Sherron set bond at $100,000.

Rodgers will have his preliminary hearing at 2:30 p.m. July 19, according to court documents.

Police responded to Armco Drive after a witness said they saw a man kick in the front door of a residence. Rogers was found walking in the area and he matched the description of the suspect, the report read.

The witness told police she saw a man walk up to a house, knock on the door, and when no one answered, he kicked in the door. The suspect walked in, closed the door, then left several minutes later, she told police.

Police searched the residence and found someone had opened a jewelry box in one of the bedrooms and possibly opened a PlayStation 4 in another bedroom.

The homeowners told police several items were missing and all of them were found in Rogers’ pockets, according to the report.
