Drug team finds heroin worth $100K in Miami Twp. traffic stop

UPDATE @ 9:50 p.m.: Khalid Porter, the 40-year-old Atlanta resident arrested after authorities found heroin in his vehicle after a traffic stop Monday on Ohio 741, remains in jail pending the filing of charges.

According to jail records, Porter was arrested about 12:30 p.m. in the 8000 block of Springboro Pike (state Route 741) and booked into the facility just after 3 p.m.

There is no court date scheduled as of Monday night.


An Atlanta, Ga., man is in jail this afternoon after law enforcement discovered in his vehicle more than a pound of heroin worth an estimated $100,000 on the street.

Authorities with the Miami Valley Bulk Smuggling Task Force made the discovery after they affected a traffic stop on state Route 741 in Miami Twp. on a vehicle driven by Khalid Porter, according to a statement from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Porter is being booked into the county jail on charges of drug trafficking and drug possession, according to online jail records.

There has been no word on what led members of the task force to stop Porter’s vehicle or when the arrest occurred. We’re seeking further comment from the sheriff’s office.

“This is another great example of law enforcement working together to combat the heroin epidemic in our communities,” Sheriff Phil Plummer said in a prepared staement. “We recognize collaboration through federal, state and local partnerships are necessary to have a significant impact on the criminal organizations in Montgomery County and the Miami Valley.”

State Attorney General Mike DeWine also released a statement.

“Those bringing heroin into Ohio need to know that law enforcement officers all over the state - especially in the Miami Valley - are serious about keeping this poison off the streets and holding traffickers accountable,” he said.
