Elections board will not hire seasonal worker seeking public office

TROY – The Miami County Board of Elections Tuesday directed elections administrators to not use a seasonal employee who has filed petitions to run for political office.

Board Chairman Dave Fisher said the action involved seasonal employee Joyce Robertson of Covington, who has filed petitions to run for Covington Village Council. By law, she would need to resign once her petitions were certified by the board following the August candidate filing deadline.

“It’s a perception thing,” Fisher said, adding that Robertson had done nothing wrong.

He said she was notified of the board’s decision Tuesday afternoon. The board met in a closed executive session to discuss the personnel issue.
