Girl, 13, in 100-pound pot seizure released to mom

A 13-year-old girl spent a night in custody after she was found attempting to hide drugs officers linked to her father’s alleged drug operation, according to Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies.

According to Montgomery County Juvenile Court officials, the 13-year-old spent the night at the Juvenile Justice Center before being released Friday afternoon to her mother. The child faces charges of delinquency by reason of tampering with evidence.

When RANGE Task Force detectives arrived at the home at 22 Vincent St. on Thursday, they found the 13-year-old girl, along with an 18-year-old man, frantically attempting to hide boxes of drugs in the back yard, said Sgt. Mike Brem of the task force.

“She appeared to act as if she knew what she was doing,” Brem said. “She refused to cooperate with police.”

The girl and three others were arrested in the seizure of 100 pounds of marijuana on Vincent Street that included three handguns, two shotguns, suspected cocaine and heroin and an unknown amount of cash, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities said the marijuana was packaged and sent by mail from Arizona. The U.S. Postal Service identified the parcels as contraband and assisted task force officers in making a controlled delivery to a home on Mary Street.

Brandon S. Jones, 34, Christopher Buckner, 27, and 18-year-old Ladell Roberts remain in the county jail.
