A child was seriously injured Monday when she was mauled by a dog that police had to put down in Mercer County.
St. Henry police responded to an emergency call at 3:45 p.m. to a home in the 4000 block of Lange Road, according to a release from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.
A mother reported her 2-year-old daughter was being attacked by the family dog, which police identified as a pit bull, according to the release.
The officer “put down” the dog after it charged the officer. A rescue squad transported the mother and child to the hospital for treatment of severe injuries inflicted by the dog.
The victims’ conditions were not immediately available.
The incident remains under investigation.
