Hamilton man shot during domestic dispute, investigation continuing

Hamilton police are continuing to investigate a shooting that happened Monday night and sent a man to the hospital.

Police responded to an apartment in the 600 block of Gordon Smith Boulevard shortly before 9:30 p.m. Monday on the report of a gunshot wound. They found the 64-year-old victim in a hallway with a gunshot wound to the left upper arm, according to a police report.

Officers applied a tourniquet on the wound, and the victim was transported to a local hospital.

Police have identified a suspect who is known to the victim, but no one is in custody.

Hamilton Police Sgt. Richard Burkhardt told the Journal-News today that the incident was a result of a domestic dispute in which another person was also injured.

The shot may have been fired in self-defense, he said. Detectives are meeting with prosecutors about any possible charges.
