Arrest made in Hamilton teen’s death

Hamilton police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the death of a 13-year-old boy.

Hamilton police arrested Miquan Damartye Hubbard on a charge of murder and is currently being held without bond in the Butler County Jail pending arraignment in Hamilton Municipal Court. He was arrested Saturday in the 300 block of Hudson Avenue.

Hubbard is connected in the death of Jaraius Gilbert Jr., who was shot and killed at about 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at an apartment complex in the 800 block of Front Street, police said.

Gilbert was an eighth-grader at Wilson Middle School and died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to Butler County Coroner’s Office. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Butler County dispatchers received multiple calls Wednesday night reporting a shooting that left a 13-year-old boy dead and another young man wounded.

The second victim — Datorion Marcus Burns, 19, of Hamilton — also suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to Hamilton police. Burns was take to an area hospital for treatment and was expected to survive.

Hamilton Police Chief Craig Bucheit said the 13-year-old adult wounded in the shooting were victims of planned and targeted violence, according to the city’s police chief.
