Local killer orders roast beef, fried chicken for last meal before execution

Dennis McGuire of Preble County has ordered his last meal and is readying himself to die in the morning, according to Ohio prison officials.

McGuire ordered roast beef, fried chicken, a bagel with cream cheese, fried potatoes with onions, potato salad, butter pecan ice cream and a Coke for his special meal.

Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Spokeswoman JoEllen Smith said shortly after 4 p.m. today that McGuire is visiting with family, his attorney and a spiritual advisor. He will be permitted to make phone calls for a period of time this evening.

Smith said McGuire’s demeanor is “calm and cooperative.”

He is scheduled to die by lethal injection at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville.

McGuire was convicted of the 1989 rape and murder of Joy Stewart of West Alexandria in Preble County. Stewart was nearly eight months pregnant when he killed her.
