Magetti-Gavin Funeral Home owner sentenced to prison

Michelle L. Gavin, the former co-owner of Magetti-Gavin Funeral Home in Dayton was sentenced to four years in prison Wednesday.

The sentence came after Gavin, 46, was found guilty on 36 counts that includes one count of theft from an elderly or disabled person, one count of grand theft, 16 counts of tampering with records and 18 counts of violation of pre-needs contracts.

Gavin operated and managed the now-defunct Magetti‐Gavin Funeral Home at 1508 Valley St., along with her husband. She sold "pre‐needs" funeral contracts, which are pre‐paid funeral arrangements. The funeral home is to deposit and retain those funds in either a trust or a life insurance policy as required by law, according to a press release from the Montgomery County prosecotor's office.
