Man sentenced to at least five years in kidnapping, Dayton police chase

A man kidnapping his girlfriend and leading Dayton police on a chase before crashing into a semi truck was sentenced to five to seven and a half years in prison.

Shawn Brownlee, 39, pleaded guilty to domestic violence and kidnapping charges, according to court records.

He was sentenced to two years for domestic violence and five to seven and a half years for kidnapping, but the sentences will be served at the same time.

Brownlee received credit for 121 days served.

A judge ordered him to register with the state’s violent offender database as well.

He will also be on probation for five years following his release from prison.

On July 3, police responded to Deeds Avenue and Ray Street in Dayton after a woman texted 911 and said she was being held against her will in a car by her ex-boyfriend, according to investigators.

While police were investigating, a man — later identified as Brownlee — drove off with the woman inside.

Officers followed the car, which eventually crashed into a semi truck on Ohio 4 south off Harshman Road.

Brownlee was taken into custody after short foot chase.

The victim received minor injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital with Brownlee.

He was originally chard with domestic violence, failure to comply with law enforcement officer, felonious assault, abduction and kidnapping, according to court records.

The other charges were dismissed when Brownlee pleaded guilty to kidnapping and domestic violence.
