A Dayton man convicted of murdering another man on Paul Laurence Dunbar Street in December 2016 was sentence to prison Wednesday.
Joshua Verdell will spent 18 years to life in prison for murdering Stephan Shyne, 27. The case was scheduled for trial. But Verdell, 28, pleaded no contested to murder and other charges in September and was found guilty.
His attorney, Jay Carter, said at the time that Verdell wanted to challenge on appeal evidence gathered by police that Judge Barbara Gorman allowed.
Verdell was charged with three counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault and one count of tampering with evidence in connection to the death of Shyne.
Carter said the two friends got into an argument before shots were fired. Police said a car crashed after someone inside was fatally shot as the car was driving on Paul Laurence Dunbar Street early the morning of Dec. 20, 2016.
