Middletown man charged after police respond to report of stabbing

Two men are recovering from stab wounds and one of them is behind bars following a disturbance Thursday night at a Middletown residence.

Officers were dispatched at about 7:45 p.m. to the 1000 block of Second Avenue on a report of two people stabbed, according to the report.

Brad Abner, who had a stab wound to the upper chest, told police that Ernest Burton stabbed him.

Burton had a stab wound to the side and blood on his face and arms, according to police.

Witnesses said Abner and Burton had been sitting on the porch of the residence when they got into an argument. Both had been consuming alcohol.

As Abner passed Burton to go back into the house, Burton stopped him and began yelling and tripping him. When the incident turned physical, Burton pulled out a knife and stabbed Abner, according to witnesses.

Witnesses said that Abner never had a knife and that Burton may have stabbed himself during the altercation.

Both men were transported to Atrium Medical Center for treatment.
