The Huber Heights man accused of murder in the slaying of his girlfriend could face an additional charge for assaulting a corrections officer.
Ryan D. Mitchell, 28, is accused of assaulting the officer at the jail the day he was booked in.
A grand jury will decide whether to charge Mitchell in the incident, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said.
Mitchell is in jail on a $2.25 million bond for charges of murder and failure to stop after an accident, according to jail records.
He was arrested Feb. 21 after officers responded to a home on Cree Avenue, where 26-year-old Melissa Nilson was found deceased.
The coroner's office said the preliminary cause of death indicates Nilson died of a gunshot wound.
Police said Nilson's 4-year-old child was in the home at the time.
One of the first officers to respond saw Mitchell speeding away in a silver Grand Am began to pursue him.
Mitchell crashed into another motorist on Rip Rap Road before breaking into a nearby bar, where he was apprehended by police.
