New details on former Waynesville Homecoming King’s probation violation

The former Waynesville High School Homecoming King sentenced to probation earlier this month for fondling four boys in 2016 has been sent to jail.

Judge Timothy Tepe imposed a 180-day sentence on Wednesday on Cole A. Phillips, 20, of Wayne Twp. Phillips received credit for 11 days already served.

On Jan. 12, Tepe sentenced Phillips to five years probation for gross sexual imposition and suspended the jail term. Phillips was also fined $2,500 and classified as a sex offender.

Tepe originally sentenced Phillips after hearing pleas for leniency and statements on behalf of the victims.

“Mr. Phillips pursued my son like a hunter,” one father said in court after commending his son for reporting the incident to police.

Phillips was Waynesville High’s Homecoming King in 2015.

The cases came to light last year after another case surfaced involving a Waynesville football player, according to one victim’s family’s statement read during the sentencing hearing in Warren County Common Pleas Court in Lebanon.

The probation violation was reported a week after his sentencing.

“On Jan. 11, 2018, the defendant admitted to me and officers of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office to having inappropriate conversations with minors on social media. This is a violation regarding unsupervised contact with minors,” Probation Officers Matthew Pierce said in the violation report.

Tepe also barred Phillips from access to “internet ads” and from employment with minors. His residence is to be approved by probation officials.

Phillips was in the county jail in Lebanon on Friday.
