New Madison report of man luring children to SUV found false

The Darke County sheriff's office reported that a May 3 complaint of man in an SUV attempting to lure two 10-year-old boys from Tri Village Schools in New Madison into his vehicle was made up.

The responding deputy reviewed video footage and spoke to employees at area businesses, as well as a witness who said that they saw and spoke to the boys while they walked home.

After the deputy spoke to the boys and the witness, one of the boys admitted that the report was false. Police say that there was no particular reason for the false complaint.

The Darke County sheriff's office added that it takes reports like this seriously and will always investigate vigorously. It encourages anyone who observes suspicious activity to report it.
