Police find man with shotgun pellets in leg

A man was shot in the leg while trying to run away from someone whom he reported to police was a stranger.

At 10:33 p.m. Friday, officers were called to the 1700 block of Gondert Avenue on the report of a shooting, according to the Dayton police report.

When officers arrived they found the victim in the back of the residence with shotgun pellets embedded in his shin and knee, according to the report.

The victim told officers that he and his girlfriend were walking back from the Kroger on Smithville Road when a black car with a male driver started chasing them in an alley. They ran and the victim climbed on top of a garage, where he was then shot in the leg, according to the report.

The victim told police he jumped off the garage and ran to the house where officers found him to call for help.

The victim said he was unaware why he was shot and didn’t know the shooter, according to the report.

There were cameras attached to a few garages but police are unsure if they were functioning during the incident, according to the report.

It’s unclear whether the victim’s girlfriend was injured.
