The homeowner on Saturday spoke to News Center 7’s Monica Castro, who caught him as he was leaving. He didn’t want to be identified, but said it was his nephew was the gunshot victim. He called him an “innocent bystander” who was shot after a second group showed up while more than 30 people, including children, were outside.
The owner said children and others started screaming when the shots rang out, and that he yelled for people to get down to the ground for cover. The house has several bullet holes from the incident, and the owner said he didn’t want to stick around after what happened.
Police received multiple 9-1-1 calls to report hearing shots fired.
“They were outside having a picnic or something and all of a sudden I heard pow, pow, pow, pow, pow,” one woman told dispatchers.
A second 9-1-1 caller said she heard 10 or more gunshots.
A man who called 9-1-1 said his relative was hit in the head. “We need a medic out here. My cousin just got shot.”
Police have not released any suspect information, and the victim’s name and condition were not available.
