The unit will begin on Jan. 8 and will consist of marked and unmarked units, according to the department.
Some of the crime patterns and trends the unit will focus on included residential burglary, vehicle theft and property crimes.
The unit’s primary work will be targeted crime enforcement, but it will also be available for road patrol units for immediate assistance.

The Special Operations Unit formed following a study of annual crime statistics and crime mapping.
Chief Charlie Stiegelmeyer created the unit using re-appropriated tax levy and grant funds.
