A Springfield police report says authorities were called to a home on College Avenue on May 24. The grandmother said that she took the child to eat and then took her back to her house where the child wanted to play outside. The grandmother had the child change first.
“(The grandmother) advised when she took (the child’s) clothes off, she observed bruises all over her body,” the report states. “(The grandmother) asked (the child) what happened, at which point she started to cry and say, ‘Mommy beat me bad.’”
Officers also observed the injuries, according to court records, and were told by the child that the suspect allegedly beat her. The child was removed from Goney’s custody and placed with the grandmother, according to the report.
Police said during an interview with Goney, she reportedly admitted to hitting the child.
“She also stated that while she was whooping her, that ‘she was fighting me,’” a police report says.
Goney appeared in Clark County Municipal Court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Her bond was set at $2,500.
