OVI checkpoint results released for Montgomery County

UPDATE @ 1:45 a.m: Two OVI checkpoints were conducted in Washington Twp. Friday night by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and the Montgomery County Combined Agency OVI Task Force.

One checkpoint was held on Austin Pike at Success Lane and the other was located on Ohio 725 near Paragon Road.

According to a release, over 350 cars passed through the Austin Pike checkpoint where 2 citations were issued for expired registration and one for driving without a license.

At the second checkpoint, over 225 cars passed through, resulting in several citations as well. Three drivers were cited for driving under suspended license, two for expired registration, and one for operating a vehicle without a license.

The accompanying saturation patrols resulted in one arrest for OVI and another for felony drug possession; two citations for miscellaneous traffic violations, and another for traffic control device.

Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Combined Agency OVI Task Force will be out conducting OVI saturation patrols for the remainder of the Saint Patrick’s Day holiday weekend, the release stated.

INITIAL REPORT

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Montgomery County Combined Agency OVI Task Force have scheduled two OVI sobriety checkpoints for Friday night, according to a press release.

The checkpoints will be between 7 and 11:30 p.m. in the Washington Twp. area.

The first will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Austin Pike at Success Lane, and the second will be from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. on state Route 725 near Paragon Road.

State law requires law enforcement to announce the times and locations of sobriety checkpoints.

Since the beginning of the year the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office has arrested six impaired drivers in the Washington Twp. area, the release said. Four of the arrests were the result of traffic crashes.

In 2018, deputies made 42 arrests in the same area for impaired driving, 18 of which involved traffic crashes, the release said.

The sheriff’s office has scheduled a press conference for this morning to discuss the upcoming checkpoints.
