Both teens were arrested Wednesday evening and brought to the Butler County Juvenile Detention Center.
Police say that Kinney, driving a 1993 Acura, and Vollmer, driving a 1986 Porsche, were drag racing westbound on Ohio 4, reaching speeds of approximately 80 mph, Fairfield Twp. police Chief Richard St. John said.
The Acura struck a 1995 Jeep Wrangler, causing both the Jeep and the Acura to cross over into eastbound lanes. The Jeep overturned and landed right-side up in the front yard of a home at 2351 Hamilton Middletown Road.
The driver of a Jeep Wrangler, Danielle Anderson, 16, of Morgan Twp., and her passenger, Brandy Johnson, 16, of Okeana, were injured and taken to area hospitals.
Vollmer, whose vehicle did not crash left the accident scene, but later that night he reported to the Fairfield Twp. police station, according to police.
Both teens were arraigned Thursday in Butler County Juvenile Court. Vollmer appeared with his attorney and entered a plea of “not true,” the equivalent to a plea of not guilty. Kinney did not have representation and did not enter a plea. Both defendants were released from the juvenile detention center, placed on home incarceration and told to have no contact with their co-defendant.
Kinney and Vollmer are scheduled to appear for a pretrial at 9 a.m. April 5 in Judge Ronald Craft’s courtroom.
