The 55-year-old woman was leaving her Detroit home with her 29-year-old daughter around 10:30 a.m. when a man approached the doorstep and grabbed the older woman by her coat, WDIV reported.

The two women went back into their home, but the suspect “forced his way inside,” WXYZ reported, citing a police report.

The women asked the man to leave, and when he refused, the mother produced a gun and fired two shots, hitting him in the chest at least once, the television station reported.

The man, whose wound was fatal, was in his 30s, WDIV reported.

No arrests were made, as police said the woman fired the gun in self-defense, WXYZ reported.
