Driver of car that hits Dayton police cruiser given numerous citations

UPDATE @ 5:01 p.m.: The driver of a car that collided with a Dayton police cruiser at Earlham and Philadelphia drives will be given several traffic citations as the at-fault motorist, Sgt. Creigee Coleman said.

The at-fault driver was taken to a hospital, complaining of a back injury, the sergeant said. The at-fault driver told police he had been involved in a road rage incident just before the collision. 

Coleman said the officer whose cruiser was struck, and a second officer in a separate cruiser traveling with the first, discounted that story.

They said they were headed south on Philadelphia when the at-fault car pulled out from a standing stop at Earlham.

The officer whose cruiser was struck was not injured. 

Coleman said the citations for the at-fault driver would include driving without a license, and a right-of-way violation for pulling in front of oncoming traffic. The at-fault driver also has several active suspensions on his license, the sergeant said. 


A Dayton police cruiser was involved in a crash today. 

Around 3:15 p.m. a Dayton cruiser was struck in the area of Philadelphia Drive and Academy Place.
