A 25-year-old man is jailed in Greene County on a sex offense involving a minor as well as burglary and menacing charges.

Cameron C. Karns, of Fairborn, pleaded not guilty Dec. 14 to two charges of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, according to records in Greene County Common Pleas Court.

He is being held on $100,000 bond after his arrest Nov. 30, according to Greene County Jail records.

A grand jury indicted Karns on the sex charges Nov. 21. He was indicted earlier this month on a felony trespassing charge, according to records with Greene County Common Pleas Court.

Karns is accused of having a sexual relationship from October 2017 to June 2018 with a girl who was 15 when the relationship started, according to the statement of facts on file with Fairborn Municipal Court.

The girl told investigators she and Karns had multiple sexual encounters between March 11 and June 20, according to the statement of facts.

“During my investigation, I learned that the minor child’s custodians had become aware of this relationship,” Fairborn Detective John McGuire reported.

Karns originally was arrested Nov. 13 on the sex offense charges. He was released from jail after posting a $10,000 bond, but his bond was increased after he allegedly violated his bond conditions, which included not having contact with the girl and not having any contact with persons younger than 18, according to court records.

While jailed, Karns called the girl 48 times, with 26 calls connecting for a total of 246 minutes, according to the statement of facts. During those calls, Karns told the girl that he loved her and not to give up on him, and that “he would hang himself if she hurt him,” according to the statement of facts.

The girl told investigators “she has had a difficult time dealing with the relationship” and allowed Karns to call her from jail “because she still has feelings for him,” according to the statement of facts.

After telling investigators she was having suicidal thoughts, the girl was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation and stayed for five days, according to the statement of facts.

This isn’t the first time Karns has been in Greene County’s jail. In January, he was convicted of telephone harassment, a first-degree misdemeanor. A menacing charge was dismissed in the same case, according to records with Fairborn Municipal Court.

As part of his sentence from the January conviction, Karns was ordered to undergo a mental health assessment and anger management treatment, according to court records.

A final pretrial hearing on the current charges is scheduled in January, with a jury trial set for the beginning of February.
