FIRST REPORT: Fairfield woman charged with murder after boyfriend found dead

Gabbard, 33, is in the Butler County Jail charged with murder after police on Tuesday found Mitchell dead in their Fairfield apartment at 5419 Eastgate Drive.

Mitchell died of a stab wound and his death has been ruled a homicide, according to the Butler County Coroner’s Office.

Police were dispatched at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday for a well-being check requested by a friend of the 33-year-old Gabbard. He told the dispatcher, “It’s not really life-threatening right now, but it could be.”

Gabbard was eventually arrested “in connection” with Mitchell’s death, according to police, and was charged with murder on Wednesday.

Police released the 911 call made by Gabbard’s friend, who said the woman called him crying and was “hysterical.” He also told the dispatcher the woman has “been in and out of abusive relationships.”

Mitchell and Gabbard had lived in the apartment together and were in a relationship, police said.
