Farm Combine Destroyed By Fire In Miami Co.

A Miami County farmer was in his soybean field harvesting beans when his combine caught on fire near Casstown in Miami County at about 4:30 Wednesday afternoon.

Fire figthers from Casstown and Christiansburg, along with paramedics from Elizabeth Township reponded to the call on the Mark Batdorf farm at 965 South Childrens Home Road, south of Casstown.

Thick black smoke could be seen for miles.

The 1989 combine was destroyed by the blaze. Fire officials estimate the loss at $100,000.

The cause of the fire is listed as undetermined.

The were no injuries.

The fire did not spread to the crops, it was confined to the piece of equipment.
