Franklin company to expand, add 16 jobs

A Franklin manufacturer is planning to nearly double the size of its facility and create an additional 16 full-time jobs within the next year, according to Franklin Building and Zoning Director Don Woods.

NC Works Inc., a manufacturer of non-woven fabrics for automobile interior materials located at 3500 Commerce Center Drive, was approved Monday night at the Franklin Planning Commission meeting for plans to build a 60,000-square-foot addition to its current 80,000-square-foot office and warehouse building.

Cost of the expansion is approximately $1.8 million, said Woods, adding that construction is expected to begin within the next few weeks and should be completed by early Spring.

The company is expected to add $2 million in new equipment to the facility and have an additional $2.1 million in inventory, Woods said.

“This is certainly good news for Franklin,” Woods said.

NC Works officials were not available for comment.

NC Works formed in January 2010 and was awarded a 45-percent job creation tax credit by the state. The tax credit was worth $75,000 over five years and the company was required to maintain operations at the project site for eight years.

KP Properties of Ohio has owned the building since 2007.
