Franklin Twp. accepts resignation of firefighter who used racial slur

Franklin Twp. trustees Wednesday unanimously accepted the resignation of a volunteer firefighter who last week posted a racially charged comment on social media.

Trustees did not comment on the matter as they voted to accept Tyler Roysdon’s resignation during their meeting.

Roysdon, 20, indicated in a Facebook post that if he had to choose between saving a dog or a black man from a burning building that he would save the dog first because “one dog is more important than a million” and then used a racial slur.

Roysdon submitted his resignation prior to a scheduled disciplinary hearing on an allegation of conduct unbecoming a township employee.

Franklin Twp. Fire Chief Steve Bishop indefinitely suspended Roysdon on Sept. 12 after learning of the racially charged comment that had been posted to Facebook.
