The Budweiser Clydesdales are coming to Dayton — and they have a special delivery to make.
>>NEW DETAILS: Budweiser Clydesdales to visit 4 Dayton bars & restaurants
The Budweiser Clydesdales have finalized the schedule for the horse team’s Dayton visit this afternoon, March 28, when the hitch team will make “special deliveries” to four bars and restaurants and one store on the Brown Street strip adjacent to the University of Dayton.
Plans call for the team and restaurant to re-create a photo from 70 years ago that hangs on the wall of the restaurant, when the Clydesdales visited the Pine Club, according to the steakhouse’s owner, David Hulme.
In addition to The Pine Club the Clydesdales team will visit Buffalo Wild Wings, Milano’s Pizza & Subs, Timothy’s and a Sunoco convenience store and gas station, all located in a two-block stretch in the 1800-1900 blocks of Brown Street.
Vail Miller Jr., CEO of Heidelberg Distributing Co., will be riding the hitch and delivering a case of Budweiser to each account, Laura Elking, Anheuser-Busch marketing and media manager at Heidelberg, told this news outlet today, March 23. Moraine-based Heidelberg is the distributor for Budweiser and other Anheuser-Busch beers in the Dayton area.
“We are excited for the visit,” Vail Miller Jr., Heidelberg Distributing’s CEO, told this news outlet.
Laura Elking, Anheuser-Busch marketing and media manager at Heidelberg, said the visit is tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday. Elking called the visit “a last-minute surprise, and a great one, at that.”
The best place for members of the public to see and photograph the Budweiser Clydesdales team will be at the Sunoco gas station and convenience store at 1927 Brown St. between approximately 2:20 p.m. and 3 p.m., Elking said. Delivery will then be made to the four other restaurant/pub accounts before the team will return to its staging area in a parking lot near the Marriott University of Dayton hotel on South Patterson Boulevard.
The visit is weather-dependent — the horse team cannot travel in inclement weather, the Heidelberg spokeswoman said.
The Budweiser Clydesdales’ “Hitch Schedule” called for the horse team to come to Cincinnati on Tuesday, March 27, in conjunction with the opening of the Major League baseball season. It will be in southwest Ohio through April 3.
The Budweiser Clydesdales made their first appearance on April 7, 1933. They were a gift from August A. Busch, Jr. and Adolphus Busch to their father in celebration of the repeal of Prohibition.
