NEW DETAILS: Change of plans for St. Anne the Tart bakery and coffee shop

The founder of the future bakery and coffee house “St. Anne the Tart” is now targeting a former violin shop at 1500 E. Fifth St. at Labelle Street in Dayton for her new venture.

The change of plans — the shop had been slated for 1509 E. Fifth St., across the street — has pushed back the projected opening to this fall, according to founder Megan Smith.

The new venue “gives us exponentially more space, a larger storefront on Fifth Street, as well as more convenient parking for customers,” Smith said.

If all goes well, construction would begin in June, with an opening perhaps as early as October, Smith said.

“We're so excited about the new location for St. Anne the Tart and the possibilities that this new space provides beyond the day-to-day offerings as a bakery, coffeehouse and lunch spot,” she said.

A native of Columbus, Smith operated a bakery in Lexington, Ky. prior to moving to Dayton nearly four years ago. When she announced her initial plans for opening the bakery, Smith said she was drawn to the historic district neighborhood east of downtown Dayton.

“I love that area. I think St. Anne’s Hill is magical, and I want to be on the ground floor of all the good things that are happening there,” she said in early 2017.
