Kettering officer on paid leave following assault conviction

KETTERING — A Kettering police officer remains on paid administrative leave after being found guilty of misdemeanor assault in January.

Officer Douglas Stewart, a Miamisburg resident, is scheduled for sentencing Feb. 21 in Miamisburg Municipal Court.

Stewart was arrested and charged Dec. 15 following an incident at the Baum Opera House, 15 S. First St. in Miamisburg.

According to Miamisburg police records, Stewart and another man engaged in a verbal altercation that became physical when Stewart struck the other man.

Stewart, 43, pleaded no contest and was found guilty of the misdemeanor charge Jan. 23.

Kettering City Manager Mark Schwieterman said Stewart has been on paid administrative leave since the event took place.

“At this point, the situation is still under investigation,” Schwieterman said.
