Centerville names new principal for Driscoll Elementary

Centerville City Schools has named Erin Bucher as the principal of Driscoll Elementary for the 2018-19 school year.

Bucher will be paid $98,564 in her new position, and Centerville’s Director of Human Resources Dan Tarpey says that her administrative experience will be a plus moving forward.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Ms. Bucher back to the Centerville City Schools in the capacity of building principal at Driscoll Elementary,” Tarpey said. “She’s an extraordinary professional who is committed to maintaining the excellent educational programming in place at Driscoll Elementary School.”

Bucher previously taught at Watts Middle School in Centerville as an intervention specialist for nine years and was in charge of Centerville’s summer school program for grades 2-7 for two years.

She is currently an assistant principal at the Mason Early Childhood Center and the Special Services Supervisor for Mason City Schools. The new challenge is something she is looking forward to.

“It is an honor to have the opportunity to serve the Centerville community once again,” Bucher said. “I look forward to working with and learning from the staff, students and families of Driscoll Elementary. I am beyond thrilled to return to the herd.”

The Driscoll principal position was posted in April, and a committee interviewed eight internal and external applicants prior to making its selection.

Bucher’s contract is expected to be approved by the Centerville Board of Education during its meeting tonight.

She will replace Erin Elsner, who has accepted a new role as a math specialist in the district after serving as Driscoll’s principal for two years.

Driscoll Elementary, located at 5767 Marshall Rd., serves about 240 students in second through fifth grades and has more than 50 staff members.
