A Fairfield school bus driver accused of assaulting an elementary student will not face charges, said city police officials.

The driver, who has not been named by police or school officials, was accused by the parents of a Central Elementary female student of assaulting her on Friday.

The driver was ordered on leave Tuesday from the job by Fairfield School officials pending the outcome of the police investigation.

Fairfield Police spokesman Doug Day released a statement Wednesday saying after his department investigated the accusation, and officials have decided no charges will be made against the driver.

“This afternoon our detectives finished their investigation, concluding, that there was insufficient evidence to support a criminal prosecution,” said Day.

Fairfield school officials did not immediately respond to questions as to the status of the driver.
