UPDATE: Feb. 21

The settlement agreement between the Yellow Springs school district and former teacher Angela Bussey calls for the district to reimburse Bussey $7,500 for her legal fees in the case.

The rest of the settlement contains standard language with neither side admitting any liability, each side releasing the other from all claims in the litigation, and both agreeing to non-disparagement clauses.

FIRST REPORT

The Yellow Springs school district and a former teacher reached a legal settlement agreement for a second time, this time stemming from the schools’ lawsuit against her.

Former health and physical education teacher Angela Bussey first sued the school district in 2014, alleging a hostile work environment for women. She and the district reached a 2015 settlement deal in which the schools paid her $20,000 and she agreed to resign, among other terms.

Then in 2018, the district sued her, claiming she used an online pseudonym to criticize the school district and comment about the previous settlement, in violation of the deal.

On Tuesday, the parties released a “joint statement” via the Greene County Civil Mediation program.

“The Yellow Springs Exempted Village School District Board of Education and Angela Bussey have resolved all claims in the civil lawsuit that was filed in the Greene County Common Pleas Court in 2018,” the statement reads. “The parties regret the matter resulted in litigation, as it is now apparent that the filing was due to a miscommunication between Mrs. Bussey’s prior counsel and the School Board. As a result, the School Board has reimbursed Mrs. Bussey her attorney’s fees. It is our hope that all parties involved can put this behind them and move forward in a positive direction.”
