Sens. Brown, Portman back Matt McFarland for Dayton federal judge seat

Sens. Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown both endorsed the nomination of Ohio appeals court Judge Matt McFarland as a federal district judge in Dayton.

President Donald Trump tapped McFarland, a graduate of the law school at Capital University and a judge on the Ohio Fourth District Court of Appeals, to fill a vacancy in the federal bench left by the retirement of Judge Thomas Rose. He will need Senate confirmation.

Brown, D-Ohio, and Portman, R-Ohio, recommended McFarland to the federal bench. Portman said McFarland’s “reputation is well deserved and I am confident he will continue to distinguished service on the bench.”

McFarland was elected to the court of appeals in 2004. He was re-elected in 2010 and 2016.
