UPDATE: 2-year-old pulled from Darke County pool Friday has died

UPDATE @ 1:25 p.m.: 

A 2-year-old boy who was found unresponsive in the pool of a Darke County home has died, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

The boy, identified as Max Smith, died Monday at Dayton Children’s Hospital after the accidental drowning at his family’s swimming pool on Gettysburg Webster Road Friday.

No charges will be filed in the incident, according to deputies.

FIRST REPORT (July 12):

A 2-year-old boy found unresponsive in a pool Friday morning is reported in critical condition.

The child was found around 11:20 a.m. unresponsive in a private swimming pool on Children’s Home Bradford Road by a family member, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

“He fell in the pool,” a 911 caller told dispatchers.

The boy was rushed to a nearby neighbor’s house in the 7000 block of Gettysburg-Webster Road where CPR was administered.

The 2-year-old was then taken by CareFlight to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where he is  listed in critical condition.

It is not known how long the child had been in the water. The incident remains under investigation.
