AAA will conduct “CarFit” checks today at the St. Leonard retirement community to help area seniors see how well their cars “fit” them, then offer suggestions to help the senior drive safer and for longer. It will be in the parking lot at the Franciscan Center on the St. Leonard campus today from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

This program is part of a few programs from AAA to help mature divers stay behind the wheel longer.

CarFit checks include assessments of steering wheel tilt and position, distance of the driver from the steering wheel, line of sight above the steering wheel, distance of the driver from the gas and brake pedals and mirror positions to eliminate blind spots.

The program also offers information for seniors who have difficulties with operating a seat belt, entering or exiting the vehicle, turning their head to check blind spots and sitting comfortably without stiffness or pain.

No appointments are necessary.
