Annie Oakley gun sells for $293,000

The shotgun was consigned to auction by Oakley's grandniece along with other family items like a charm bracelet worn by Oakley and some rare photos.

Oakley, born Phoebe Ann Mosey in Darke County, Ohio, was a sharp shooter who starred in Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show. Documentation referenced on the auction house web site shows that the gun was likely extensively used in the show because it was serviced and rehabbed many times during the years Oakley performed.

The Garst Museum in Greenville has an extensive collection of Annie Oakley items. Staff there said they did not bid on the gun because the price range was too high.

The winning bid was placed by the National Cowgirl Museum in Fort Worth, Texas.
